Our History
Before 1997, the Northern and Southern Provinces of the Moravian Church in America operated two independent planned giving programs. In the Northern Province the effort was led by Reverend Gene Glasser, and in the Southern Province it was led by Dick Gillett.

In 1998, the Synods of the Northern and Southern Provinces authorized the formation of the Moravian Ministries Foundation, which replaced the two planned giving programs. The work of both Gene and Dick created a strong framework on which the Foundation has steadily built.

The decision to create the Foundation was rooted in the beliefs that it would result in:
  • A wiser use of both Province's resources, and
  • A better and more effective voice to speak to Moravians about planned giving and other services that would foster personal and institutional (churches and ministries) stewardship.
Since its founding, the Foundation has assisted Moravians and identified between $40,000,000 and $45,000,000 in planned and outright gifts through our GiftLegacy program. The endowment management service, the Moravian Common Fund, has helped over 70 churches and agencies invest over $61,000,000 in permanent and endowment funds as of June 30, 2008. Our capital campaign service, Morning Star Campaign Services, has already assisted 19 churches and agencies.
