I am not a person who looks back and wonders what could or should have been. Rather, I focus on learning from the past as I proceed into the future. Hopefully, I avoid past mistakes and remember the things that worked, so I can use them again. However, the meaning of life is not entirely based upon whatever accomplishments or failures I might be responsible for, but how I lived my life. How well or poorly do I conduct myself? What kind of husband and father am I? Am I honest and forthright in my dealings? Do I own my mistakes? Do I laugh at the dumb things I did? Do I listen to and hear what my family, friends, and associates told or suggested to me? And, most importantly, how closely do I live my life according to the Sermon on the Mount?
I keep these guiding principles in mind as I work with individuals, and groups, through the Moravian Ministries Foundation, knowing that these people, too, are writing the stories of their lives and these stories involve the churches and ministries that they love. I’ve learned much from these women, men, and families, and they have enriched my faith journey and my work.
